Alien Invasion!
SummarySeveral UFOs land in New York, Steel City, Chicago, St. Louis, Phoenix, and San Francisco. There are three of them, and they differ significantly from each other. They disgorge robots, some of which seemingly disintegrate randomly selected humans, others of which steal a variety of artifacts, all of which are eventually identified as being Atlantean. Victoria (the other identity of Zenith, but she doesn't get a chance to change), Oxide, Red Rocket, Magique, one quadrachaun, and Miss Music are all taken away in the saucers, some as captives, others as involuntary stowaways.
In one saucer, Magique is able to free Red Rocket and Oxide. In another, the quaddie is able to learn important things about their captors, while Zenith (the world's mightiest heroine) and Miss Music (possibly the world's weakest heroine) end up in the alien laboratory where the aliens prepare them for some kind of experiments. Part of the preparation is to stun their vocal cords; since she cannot say her magic word, Vicki is unable to change to Zenith. Vicki and Tammi awaken on a table under some kind of device that resembles an x-ray machine. The device is powered on but doesn't seem to be having any effect. The aliens have judged that both of them are helpless because their voices are useless, but they didn't realize that Tammi's audio powers are not dependent on her voice. She is able to free both of them.
The stowaways join forces and break out of their saucer and begin to attack the aliens from inside their base. The aliens unleash a team of humans with minor powers against them. The members of this team are under mental control by the aliens. Their powers are significantly weaker than the heroes, but their commander Deviser's power is strategical and tactical genius and they are winning the battle. Until Miss Music helps Vicki turn to Zenith. This turns the tide for a while, but then the aliens join the battle with superior weapons.
Red Rocket, Major Power, Palette, and Donal Regan track down the aliens in their hidden underground base near Roswell, NM. They join the battle and eventually the humans win. The mind control is broken and the now-free humans lose their powers.
The aliens have been experimenting on humans and developed a process to give them super powers, but the powers are very minor. The kidnapped some humans who already had powers (Vicki and Tammi) hoping to learn from them how to improve their processes. The two women were on a scanner that was probing their bodies when they escaped. Zenith notes that since her powers are magical, the aliens were unable to duplicate them, and Tammi reports that the experiment was interrupted before it could affect her.
It turns out that the aliens are stranded on Earth; they had not originally planned to be invaders, which is why their saucers and robots are so widely varied.
The AMH confiscates several fliers from the conquered aliens, which are refurbished for human use.
This story is based on "The Origin of the Super Squad" with suitable changes to fit Other Earth.
