The Green - is actually the enemy of both Mr. Fire and Mr. Ice. The Green, Mr. Fire and Mr. Ice have had a treaty since before the beginning of time, and today it had been disrupted by the arrival of the Silver Ghost and a number of plant-themed villains. The Green's power was temporarily boosted and it was driven temporarily insane.
When the Spectre took the heroes and villains away, the Green remained... the Green sacrificed parts of itself to burn and destroy Mr. Ice, and found ways to attack Mr. Fire, and with the whole world's power behind it, it was winning. So Mr. Fire called for help - and recalled Wildfire to the peak of her power. And the Green was wounded and retreated back to normal and reverted to the treaty the three mystical forces had always enjoyed in the past. And when they were finished, Wildfire was back!
... Poison Ivy, I think, talks about how powerful the Green is after the villains invade, and it seems to me that the mystical personifications of the Green, Fire and Ice, have probably had a truce ever since plants first evolved - and the bad guys somehow enhanced the Green and it broke the truce, and Fire and Ice fought back...
But then we have Wildfire active in a period of time when there aren't supposed to be any heroes. It's possible that she decided to NOT be Wildfire after she helped restore the balance between the Green, Fire and Ice, and then the Martian invasion brought her back again, but it seems more likely that as soon as her powers are restored, she resumes being Wildfire.
