Donna Sparks
Born 1935. She has 2 older brothers, 1 younger brother, no sisters. Her father and all her male relatives are military veterans who chose police work after they left the military. Donna idolized Barbara Buttrick and wanted to emulate her, and she got her father and brothers to teach her to box. She has always been large for her age, taller than average and strongly built rather than curvy. At 25, she is about 5'10" tall with dark hair.
Donna enlisted in the US Army (WACs) at 18 after she graduated from high school. She served a 4 year term, mostly clerical and administrative, which included a posting in Germany. She received basic self-defense training in the service. What else did she do? There were women pilots during WWII but later? Should she be in the Air Force instead?
She enlisted in the San Francisco Police Department after she left the military. Unknown to her, an uncle, who was a high ranking officer, pulled some strings to get her into Police Academy and then an assignment to Homicide just before he retired. As well as regular police training, Donna spends a lot of time on the police shooting range, and regularly works out at the Salvation Army Kroc Center near the Tenderloin, the only boxing club in San Francisco that allows women members. Donna is also attending night school, where she is pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice. Her superb work in Homicide has caught the eye of her boss, Captain Robert Ironside, and she is likely to be promoted soon.
Donna spends a lot of time with her artist friend Alex Silverstone. She enjoys going to plays and museums. She is a big Wilt Chamberlain fan, and she likes going to boxing matches. She does not enjoy Roller Derby; she says it is 'as phony as pro wrestling'.
