Introduction
The all-girl mystery heroine team Flower Power was justly famed throughout 1970s
Savannah, Ga.: 1973
Mary McCray, the teen age mystery heroine Sky Girl, was thrilled to have such awesome super-girlfriends as her teammates on the brand new all-girls mystery hero team, Flower Power. It had been, like, totally confusing when they first got together, with all four of them being named Mary. Like, what were the chances that 4 teenage girls, all named Mary, would all get super powers and become mystery heroines? But they managed, and they kept in touch with phone calls and letters, and were becoming fast friends.
Mary Ferris of California, Miss Metal, and Mary Hansen of Georgia, a.k.a. Southern Belle, had asked their friends to join them for a lunchtime celebration. The two girls had both been accepted to the same college and planned to be roommates, and they wanted to share their excitement.
Mary Farnsworth, also known as Flicker, had flashed from the Farnsworth family's hereditary castle just outside of Beaconsfield, Bucks, Great Britain, to the San Fernando Valley to gather up Miss Metal, then to New York City to pick up Sky Girl, and then poofed the three of them to the stately southern estate outside Savannah, Ga, that Southern Belle called home. The teammates all changed back to their civilian Mary identities and headed to Mary Hansen’s favorite restaurant for a lunch of some great southern-style barbecue.
It was unusual for someone to reserve a table at the restaurant, but Mary Hansen had done so today, as the girls planned to hang out there for a little longer than a regular lunch. It was a good thing she had made reservations, too, as the restaurant got super extra crowded shortly after the quartet arrived. It seemed as if every boy and man in town dropped by for barbecue today. Maybe the food was extra special today, as so many of the male diners jumped up from their tables and headed to the pay phones to call their friends to come by for a special treat.
Oblivious to the buzzing crowd, Mary Hansen and Mary Ferris breathlessly described their college. It sounded great. Finally, Mary Farnsworth asked them what they were going to study.
“Like, you have to ask?! We’re both, like, gonna go into archaeology,” Mary Ferris told her friends.
“In fact, y’all, we’re gonna specialize in the study of the plumbing of the ancient Egyptian kings!” Mary Hansen added enthusiastically.
“Like, fer sure,” said Mary Ferris with a wink.
Mary Farnsworth and Mary McCray looked at each other in puzzlement, and finally Mary McCray asked the obvious question. “Why?”
Mary Hansen looked at Mary Ferris and smiled. Then she answered her friend. “Like, I'm really surprised you guys aren't sharing the same major too! Don't ALL girls dream about being…”
Then Mary Ferris chimed in, and they answered together, “…pharaoh faucet majors?”
